Chapter 2 - Trains

The train is the focal point of the garden railway. They come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and types. There are steam engines, diesel engines, standard-gauge trains, narrow-gauge trains, realistic trains, whimsical trains, big trains and little trains. This chapter will give you a glimpse of the vast diversity of the trains and show them at work in their respective garden environments.
No. 8, a freelanced, narrow-gauge model, pulls up to the water tower on Alan Olson's Acoma Central Railroad. This engine is a much-modified live-steam locomotive. It started out as a British-style engine. Alan Americanized the bodywork and added details. The engine is controlled via radio, with servos operating the throttle and reversing gear.
