Chapter 3
- Infrastructure
A garden railway is far more than just a train running through a garden. It is a miniature world, requiring the same infrastructure of buildings, roads, bridges, tunnels, and other constructions that full-size railways require. Here, you'll see amazing creations by imaginative and experienced garden railoaders from around the globe.
Timber trestles are an icon of American railroading and are popular on garden railways, too. A model timber trestle goes together quickly and easily while, at the same time, providing a dramatic and impressive finished structure. This one, on Joe and Annie Mellen's Mellen Patch Railroad is around three feet high. Below it, the track enters the mountain through a stone tunnel portal.
