Chapter 4
- Railway Gardening
Landscaping an outdoor railway is a challenging and exciting endeavor. This chapter covers specific how-to issues, such as the creative use of small trees, choosing hardy groundcovers, the best uses of color in the railway, and how to buy appropriate plants to for garden railroads.
Barry and Bonnie Altman's railroad in Ontario has dozens of plants of many types. Standard perennials, including daylilies, hostas, bleeding hearts, tulips, and candytuft are visible in the background. Low-growing groundcovers in front allow trains to be viewed clearly.
