Chapter 6
- Ponds and Water Features
Rushing mountain streams, quiet pools, and burbling streams all add incredible beauty and eye-catching interest to garden railways. They give purpose to miniature lumber mills, habitat for ornamental fish and wildlife, and offer a perfect growing environment for water lilies and other aquatic plants. The many beautiful images in this chapter will inspire and excite the reader with a world of watery possibilities.
Water plays a crucial role in the Cascade Timber & Mining Railroad of Gary and Ione Edlen in Iowa. Fishing shacks, a sternwheeler, and a wharf alongside the pond create a true waterside setting.
